President Declares Emergency Disaster For California
WASHINGTON, D.C. -- The head of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) announced that the President declared an emergency exists in the state of California and ordered federal aid to supplement state and local response efforts in the area struck by wildfires beginning on June 20, 2008 and continuing.
FEMA Funding to Help California Fight Wildfire in Solana and Napa Counties
OAKLAND, Calif. -- The U.S. Department of Homeland Securitys Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has authorized the use of federal funds to help California fight the 3,000 acre wild-land fire in Solano and Napa Counties. The fire is one of over three hundred fires that started in the State in the last 24 hours, mostly due to dry lightning.

PASADENA, Calif. -- The two major firestorms that raged through Southern California in 2003 and 2007 share several notable similarities. Both began in the third week of October during periods of high temperatures, low humidity and gusty Santa Ana winds; both received federal disaster declarations in the fourth week of October; the 2003 fires spread through five of the seven counties affected in 2007; both closed registration for federal and state assistance to individuals on January 9; both were expanded to include eligible mud- and debris-flow losses.
