FEMA Activates in Support of Bering Sea Storm
SEATTLE, Wash. -- The Federal Emergency Management Agency is closely monitoring storm conditions in Alaska, and encourages residents to follow the advice of local officials. According to the National Weather Service, winter storm, blizzard and coastal flood warnings remain in effect along the Bering Sea and west coast of Alaska. Conditions are expected to worsen as this storm makes landfall.

FEMA Authorizes Funds to Help Washington State Fight Monastery Complex Fire
SEATTLE, Wash -- The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) today authorized the use of federal funds to help Washington State fight the Monastery Complex Fire burning in Klickitat County. FEMA Regional Administrator Ken Murphy said the state's request for federal fire management assistance was approved after it was confirmed that the fire had burned 18 structures and forced the evacuation of 225 primary residences and 75 secondary homes. The fire, which started 7 September, had consumed more than 2,000 acres at the time of the request.

FEMA Funds North Idaho Correctional Facility Retrofit
BOISE, Idaho -- The U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has announced Pre-Disaster Mitigation Competitive (PDM-C) grant awards totaling $1,085,617 to the State of Idaho to retrofit the North Idaho Correctional Facility located near the town of Cottonwood, in Idaho County. According to FEMA Regional Administrator Ken Murphy, the retrofit is designed to mitigate multiple hazards facing the facility, including severe storms and wildfires.

According to FEMA Regional Administrator Ken Murphy, Hazus is a multi-hazard risk assessment software tool that combines science, engineering, mathematical modeling and GIS technology to estimate potential loss of life and property damage from natural hazards.
